There are many connections between Alsace and the United States that extend far beyond the 250-year history of the United States. We intend to explore these connections in more detail on this end-of-year trip. We’ll discover connections dating back to the early 16th century, as well as others from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Saturday, Nov. 21, 2026
8:00 am Departure from Mannheim/Planetarium
8:45 am Karlsruhe Central Station (bus terminal)
Approx. 11:00 am Arrival in Sélestat. There, we’ll visit the famous Humanist Library, whose collections are part of the UNESCO Memory of the World Register, and view the very first world maps — and thus cartographic records — of the “New World.” We’ll also discuss the fact that Sélestat served as an important supply hub during the Colmar Offensive of 1944–45.
Afterward, free time and an opportunity for lunch.
Around 2:00 pm, we’ll continue on to Colmar, followed by a guided city tour and a visit to the Bartholdi Museum.
Around 6:30 pm, check-in at the hotel and dinner.

Diese Verbindungen wollen wir auf unserer Jahresabschlussfahrt näher erkunden. Wir werden Verbindungen des frühen 16. Jahrhundert, aber auch des 19. und 20. Jahrhundert, entdecken.

8.45 Uhr Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof (Busbahnhof)
circa 11 Uhr Ankunft in Sélestat. Dort besuchen wir die berühmte Humanistenbibliothek, deren Bestände zum UNESCO-Weltdokumentenerbe gehören, und betrachten die allerersten Weltkarten und damit kartographische Zeugnisse der „Neuen Welt“. Aber wir gehen auch auf die Tatsache ein, dass Sélestat eine wichtige Nachschubstadt während der Colmaroffensive von 1944/45 war.
Danach Freizeit und Möglichkeit des Mittagessens.
circa 14 Uhr Weiterfahrt nach Colmar; anschließend Stadtführung und Besichtigung des Bartholdimuseums
